Quilting Itch

Quilting Itch

Still alive and kicking! Trying to avoid the heat this week as we’re going over 100 for the next several days. 😒

Took a long, 4-day weekend for the holiday and finally tackled a quilt kit I’ve had for a while now:

It’s quite big, 78″ wide x 94″ high! The kit is the latest from the designer of the red and blue dragon quilts I made a couple of years ago. This one was more complicated on the sides, I had to create templates to use for cutting several of the pieces. Fun fact, trace your template onto plain old freezer paper then iron the waxy side to your fabric. Quick and easy! Peels right off and can be used several times over!

Fabric prices have gotten nuts! This will be the first of the “dragon themed” quilts I’ve done that I’m not going to put the soft, minky type fabric on the back. I need 8 yards of fabric for the backing and the minky stuff is almost twice as much! 😬 It’s also a huge pain to work with, so I’ll go the cheaper, easier route. Especially since they usually get hung and no one sees the back. 😁

Not much else going on. There’s a new D&D campaign I want to run for the group, but I wanted to play it first as a player so I joined an online group through startplaying.games. The DM was probably the best I’ve played with and it was a really fun group, but here we are, about 4 weeks later and we no longer have enough people to play. Hopefully a couple more people will join and we can play again, but I’m not holding my breath at this point. Sigh.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! Take care and stay safe!

  1. I am going to start looking at the backs of all your quilts when I am over now. 😮

  2. That quilt looks really great! Can’t imagine how you have so much energy and spend your time on one piece. But it does look very nice — and that, I reckon is the reason you do it.
Hope you keep finding things you love to fill some of your time. And, remember, we love you even when you’re not doing anything special.
