Busy Vacation

Busy Vacation

Ended up a lot busier over my Christmas vacation than I planned. My fault, Google Fiber was finally available in my neighborhood and I signed up for the first available slot and didn’t hold off until after vacation. First step was the outside install where they run the fiber from the street to my house. They were able to go under the lawn, nothing was dug up! Second step was the install inside my house which was scheduled for New Year’s Eve. They showed up early for the install and were done in about 30 minutes. No lie, Xfinity went down about 2 hours after Google Fiber had been installed my house! Last outage on the last day of the year making a total of 9 outages Oct-Dec.

Finally, because the new connection is on the far side of my house instead of downstairs I had the contractor that finished my basement come out and run a new CAT6 cable to where the rest of my gear is downstairs. Day one was putting together a plan of attack. In the end we decided to run the line up into the attic, then drop it down to the basement. This route prevented cutting holes in the walls all over the place that would then need to be patched and painted. The next day he spent a lot of time getting lost in the maze that’s my attic, but succeeded in the end. I’m all hooked up and off Xfinity’s service! Woo-hoo! I’m still working from home and need reliable internet access to do my job, let’s hope this does the trick!

Today is Jax’s birthday! He’s 6 now! Nyx turned 7 last week!

So much cuteness! So much mischief! 😆

I did manage to start my strength training program again over vacation and will begin my fifth week tomorrow! It’s a program I’ve done in the past, but I’ve been very lax of late doing any kind of regular exercise. I’ve got a bit of motivation to keep me going this time around though, I put a deposit down on a trip to Japan next year! It’s the same travel company I went to Thailand with and I’m really excited for it. Although, it’s so far in the future I can’t even book my flights yet! That’s OK, this is a year to save money and vacation days at work, as well as try to get into better shape and hopefully try to learn a few basic phrases in Japanese. Brook and I always talked about going to Japan, as well as Australia and a couple of other places. Not so sure I really want to go to Australia anymore, but Japan is on the bucket list and I’m not getting any younger. 😅

The quilting itch has started again, I think I’ll tackle this kit this weekend:

It’s a cute kit and really pretty simple, but requires a lot of cutting! 256 squares at 2 1/2 inches and 256 squares at 3 inches! Most of the kits I do aren’t big repeating patterns like this, there’s usually more variety to the work. We’ll see how it goes!

I didn’t get the giant puzzle done last year, still have a ways to go on it. I divided it into 4, and have a ways to go on the last quarter. There are a few pieces missing in the rest of it I need to figure out too:

Probably would’ve made more progress, but I bought a new diamond dotz canvas as an early Christmas present that I’ve really been enjoying. Hopefully I can manage to get a decent picture of it when it’s done, always hard with the shine.

Happy Friday! Take care and have a great weekend!

  1. I can’t imagine you finding the time for all of your great time-passers. You are such a success at anything you try. So proud of you, being that you are motivated mostly by your own desires. Much love and keep up the good work.
