Project Complete, Mostly Successful

My sister gave me a ROKR Cello Music Box kit a while ago that I finally finished:

I made mistakes, I broke pieces, but it still looks great and in the end the parts will move – if I rotate the gear manually. The music box is hooked up, but just doesn’t have enough power to turn the gears itself. I’m very “heavy-handed” with stuff – whether it’s sewing, writing, assembling stuff. I always crank things way down, pull things really tight, or press way down. I snap pencil lead, stuff I knit or crochet can stand on its own; I do NOT have a light touch. 😆 Even though I waxed all the pieces as instructed, and yes all the gears turn as they should, I’m sure I just cranked down too much when assembling the whole thing. I’m fine with that, it’s still a gorgeous kit to look at, and it would probably only get played once or twice anyway.

The giant puzzle I finished assembling over Superbowl weekend is finally hung on the wall:

The general contractor that does my home maintenance brought a laser level to figure out how to center it. I’ve never seen one before, pretty cool!

It’s such a large wall section the puzzle seems kind of small in comparison. There are “puzzle glue sheets” I got from Amazon that act as a kind of laminate applied to the back of the puzzle. I used the puzzle version of Mod Podge to glue the front of it. In the end, to hang it I bought double-sided Gorilla mounting tape that’s rated for up to 60 lbs, it’s not coming down. 😆

I finished the “Remembrance Walk” canvas:

https://diamondpaintingpro.com has a lot of really gorgeous designs. I got this one and another called “Cherry Blossoms Town” I’ll work on next. When you’re working on the canvas, it really seems like some of the colors you’re using will never work. But as soon as you take a couple of steps back from it, it’s kind of amazing how everything comes together. I usually put on a book or a favorite movie and work on the next section for a couple of hours in the evenings. It’s been a great hobby for me, really relaxing.

I recently re-watched “The Expanse” series on Amazon working on the canvas, and am now listening to the book series its based on. It’s a great series with some fun characters, I highly recommend it. 🙂

I may have gotten the general contractor into Diamond Dotz. He saw my “Jack Sparrow” one on the wall and asked where to get one. I sent him the link to buy the kit and ended up in 10 minute conversation about canvas size and how it affects the picture quality, square vs round dotz, what are AB dotz, lightboards, etc. 😆

Hope all is well with everyone!

  1. The music box is way cool! I broke pieces on the Ugears wood model car you gave me years ago too. 🙂

  2. Yay! The finished products look gorgeous! And also a testament to your tenacity. Awesome!

  3. As always, you’ve done some beautiful and lasting work. Don’t know where you get the talent… maybe your mother, but it is super.
