Robot Vacs
My house is a rambler with a LOT of carpet. Not just carpet, but high-pile carpet that’s super thick and fun to walk or sit on. Unfortunately, this means vacuuming is a royal PITA. I keep running into issues with push vacuums locking down on the carpet. I either have to hulk my way through, using both hands and body weight to keep the thing moving, or just going in reverse. It’s a workout, and not a fun one.
It was time to buy vacuum number 4. My Dyson is in the garage, unusable. The one downstairs has a break in the power card and a lot of the inner wires are exposed. Not good. The one upstairs seems to be OK some of the time. Started researching what would work when I came across a bunch of the robot vacuums. We had a Roomba 10 years ago, it was “meh”. 10 years is a long time and wow, what a range of options there are now! Almost too many, you can spend days agonizing over this decision and they range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars!
Fortunately I found the vacuum wars website and they have a definitive recommendation: MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Robot vacuum and mop. It’s on sale, and I decided to make the leap:

This is not where I wanted to put it. I was going to put it in my back room, but that one room has a transition strip between tile and carpet and this thing can’t make it over that for some reason. Everywhere else is fine. This works for now.
It mops, it vacuums, it washes the mop pads in hot water between rooms. There’s a reservoir for clean water, dirty water, and detergent. Little brushes come out of the sides to clean corners. It detects objects and pets and avoids them. You set up a schedule and it runs. So far I am super impressed!
It’s supposed to work for multiple levels, but the dock can only be located on one level. It needs to rinse the mop pads and refill clean water between rooms from the dock, so that’s not going to work. So for now, I think I’ll just have it vacuum downstairs and not do any mopping. Vacuuming was the problem I was trying to solve, so that works for me. Also, the floors downstairs do not get nearly as much traffic as the upstairs. Especially with the pups. 😁
I don’t really mind mopping, and there are a few places I will still need to mop on my own. This thing is too wide to go between the wall and the toilets, it can’t reach that back room because of the transition strip, and I’ll need to mop under the docking station itself from time to time. It is low enough to the ground that it went under the bed without problem! It has its own light, so it can still do object detection in the dark.
I finally finished that new dragon quilt with its crazy 1/16ths measurements:

I love the colors on this one! Still in the quilting mood and am working on a couple more quilts. 🙂
Finished up a big storyline with the D&D group this last week, and we have 1 other storyline to complete that we’re most of the way through. Once it’s finished, I’m switching to being a player again for a while to focus on learning Japanese before my trip next April. I enjoy running the games, but it’s a lot of work that takes a lot of time. It’s good to get a break from time to time and just enjoy the story playing out. 😁
That’s about it for now! I’ll keep everyone updated on robovac and its performance! I really should come up with a name for it…
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!!

Awesome!
You can call the robot ‘Robbie’ after the one in the movies… but that’s just my idea. I thank you for the great father’s day gift… such as it was, being that I bowled my worst game ever. And I think the quilt is fantastic. Hope you can find something else that isn’t as hard next time.
